A Note From Your Director
Welcome to the North Carolina District of the SERA. I’m Danny Hampton, K4ITL. I’ve been a ham since I was a teenager and have been involved in many repeater projects over the years. I currently have two repeaters that carry my call and many more that I’m involved in maintaining. Please contact me if I can answer any questions. Other coordination districts surrounding our area fall under the blanket of SERA. These districts include Virginia, South Carolina, Georgia, Kentucky, Tennessee, and West Virginia. We work closely with coordinators in those states to provide the best possible utilization of the amateur bands.
Coordination within NC is becoming difficult on the 2 meter band. In some areas there simply are no frequencies left that meet our “standard spacing guidelines”. In some cases we have been able to find some frequencies by the use of CTCSS access, taking advantage of natural terrain blockage, and the use of sophisticated RF modeling software to more accurately predict the performance (both desired and undesired) of a proposed system. Six Meters, 222 MHz, 900 MHz, and 1270 MHz and up continues to have lots of vacancies. A few vacancies may be found on 440 MHz. If you’d like something coordinated, contact us. Of course, if you need something on 2 meters or 10 meters we’ll work with you on that as well, just be aware that we may not be able to give you anything that you ask for on these bands.
Like all volunteer organizations, we are looking for additional members to help support the voluntary coordination program.
